Matt is our tech and business specialist with over 30 years’ experience in software development, database design, data management, cloud systems, project management, and senior corporate leadership. He has degrees in Production Engineering, and Computing and Business (with French), and specialist industry experience in engineering, company formations and online filing, manufacturing, accounting, e-commerce (including EU sales and export) and ERP.
As a creative, right-brain thinker, he excels at big-picture problem solving. He’s particularly at home with complex data management systems, and as a great presenter and verbal communicator who can break down difficult abstract concepts into easy-to-understand information, he’s ideally placed to act as the bridge between your technical and non-technical teams.
As an approved supplier for the Government’s Made Smarter programme, he is able to help manufacturing and engineering SME’s adopt digital technologies to work smarter, cut waste and improve productivity, and help them access up to 50% match-funding to pay for his time and expertise. Through this scheme, he’s currently working with a group of engineering firms to help them create new bespoke ERP and business systems that will streamline their business processes, save money, and improve profitability. In addition he works with a number of start-ups and SMEs as a consultant/Non-Exec, particularly on business strategy and growth, systems development and implementation. He is a long-standing member of the Yorkshire Leadership Group.
He is a veteran entrepreneur, a former software company CEO, and an experienced consultant, leader, and board member, with career highlights including:
- Director of IT for a law firm in London, including working with Companies House and HMRC on developing online filing systems – first developer to have his company formation software approved by Companies House
- Founder and Managing Director of one of the first cloud accounting software companies in the UK, leading it through 3 rounds of multi-million pound investment before exiting
- Winner of the AccountingWeb Software Satisfaction Award for Best Web-Hosted Accounting Software (beating Sage)
